Reiki (Ray Key) is an ancient Tibetan form of healing rediscovered and reintroduced to Japan by Dr Miao Usui in the 19th Century.
It is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.
The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words. ‘Rei’ means ‘Universal Power’ and ‘Ki’ means ‘Life force or Energy’. The unversal life force is in everything.
When the life force or energy is high and flowing freely we are happy and healthy. If the energy is blocked or low we are more susceptible to illness or stress.
People use Reiki to relax or strengthen their well being. Reiki is a form of healing which can —
Reiki promotes the body’s healing process on an emotional, mental, physical and spiritual level.
During a session you lie on a treatment table (usually) although a treatment can equally take place while you sit in a chair. You only remove your shoes.
Quiet music plays through the session. The practitioner places her hands over or on the body in a series of positions. The energy enters through the practitioner and flows through the hands in to the client to aid the healing and balance body, mind and spirit.
Reiki is a wonderfully passive experience. don’t try to relax just let the Reiki relax you. Feel free to day dream, enjoy the music and sensations of the therapy.
You may drift off to sleep that is ok – you do not need to do anything to make Reiki work.
Do not expect a diagnosis, as that is not part of Reiki. Maureen will encourage you to increase your water intake and be very gentle with yourself. Typically, clients leave the sessions more relaxed and refreshed.
Sometimes, they report feeling more tired than usual in the evening following a session. This is the body’s normal response to healing. In the following days, people report a sense of calm, an uplift in wellbeing, mental clarity and improved sleep.
Reiki has no known contra-indications and can be used concurrently with any medical intervention. Reiki will not interfere with or override the actions of medical intervention but will support the client as he or she goes through them, restoring balance in body, mind and spirit.
